The part of mid-Summer I like most is that the sun rises a little later in the morning, granting me a little extra sleep when catching the morning light.
I arrived at the parking lot at Bowman Bay (Deception Pass State Park, Washington) at first light. Well actually, it was still dark. I was the only vehicle in the parking lot. The summer morning fog was still high up on the surrounding hilltops and had not yet dropped to water level.
I had gone on a hike with my daughter in the same area the previous morning and the misty conditions hung around until about Noon. Hoping that the weather would duplicate itself today, I set my goal on exploring and photographing trails I had never set foot on before.
Because the fog sometimes doesn’t drop to sea level until a little later in the morning, I hung around and photographed the area around Bowman Bay, capturing broad and intimate landscape and nature photographs of the surrounding features.
Within just a short distance from the parking lot, one can photograph a variety of subjects including the beach, the dock, boats moored offshore, wetlands and forest trails. If the timing is right, you might even see some wildlife.
As the morning wore on, the tide was slowing receding, exposing more of the beach.
I had the area to myself before the first person showed up and launched their kayak for a morning cruise on the foggy still waters of Bowman Bay.
After a good hour of capturing landscape photographs, I headed out for further exploration on the surrounding hiking trails.
These photographs are included in my Pacific Northwest / Washington State black and white nature/landscape photography project titled Monochromatic Visions, Deception Pass State Park, Washington, 2016.
