Earlier in the afternoon, the skies were clear and the light was harsh, not ideal conditions for landscape photography. Just as the warm evening light started to cast a glow on the surrounding countryside around the Johnston Ridge Observatory, thick, dense clouds began rolling in.
To both the South and the East, the skies were clear. Only in the valleys between Mount Saint Helens and Coldwater Peak did the clouds just hang.
Taking advantage of any opportunity to photograph the mountain, I captured this image of Mount Saint Helens as the clouds parted just enough to make the summit visible.
