The Pacific Northwest region of the United States is known for its rugged coastline and breathtaking scenery. Along the coast of Washington State lies the small town of La Push, where the convergence of the Pacific Ocean and the Olympic Mountains creates a dramatic and stunning landscape.
While on a weekend trip to the Olympic Penisula in 2013, I captured this image that captured the region’s essence. The photograph “Old Pilings, La Push, Washington” features a row of old wooden pilings along the coastline, with several sea stacks and the Pacific Ocean in the background.
The lack of color creates a timeless and nostalgic quality, while the long exposure smooths out the waves and creates a sense of motion in the water.
The old pilings in the foreground add an element of history and human presence to the image. They serve as a reminder of the area’s history and a testament to the harsh and unforgiving nature of the Pacific Ocean.
The blurred motion of the waves in the background creates a sense of tranquility and calm, despite the violent nature of the ocean. The contrast between the smooth water and the rough wooden pilings creates a harmonious balance within the image.
