It’s felt like this atmospheric river hitting the Washington coast has been going on forever. The rain has kept coming down for what seems like weeks now, measured in inches. We recently caught a break between storm systems rolling in off the Pacific Ocean. The forecast even said there might be sun breaks on the Long Beach Peninsula, so my daughter and I decided to make a run for the beach!

We drove through some lingering rain cells before arriving at the ocean access road at Seaview, Washington. Luckily, the wind was calm when we got there, with patches of sun peeking through the clouds. We were able to drive all the way south down the beach to Beards Hollow and found that we had the entire area to ourselves! Seagulls relaxed on the rocks while bald eagles watched us closely from the trees high up on the bluffs.

With no one else around, we took our time wandering the beach and exploring the cool nooks and crannies of Beards Hollow. We found interesting rock formations to climb on and use as frames for photographs of the beautiful, peaceful late autumn landscape.

Getting outside during this break from the rain recharged us. The bursts of sunlight dancing on the water and the commanding bluffs felt magical. It was an important reminder that despite weeks of storms, the resilience and wonder of the Washington coast remains. No amount of rain can dampen the spirit found in places like Beards Hollow forever!
