I love exploring the natural world with my camera. On a recent outing, I captured a few winter landscapes while photographing the rural countryside of the Lower Chehalis River Valley near Montesano, Washington. I’m excited to share the behind-the-scenes information about these photographs.

One of my favorite morning locations was “Seasonal Pond,” near the Chehalis River. An old, abandoned railroad grade separates the river from the pasture. Seasonally, water fills up from the winter rainfall.

The conditions were perfect for photographs. Calm winds and dark, moody skies created a serene atmosphere. The light reflected the winter trees upon the glass-smooth waters of the pond. I experimented with different compositions, capturing the perfect shot.

Another highlight of the morning was photographing the “Metcalf Slough.” As one of the many sloughs that drain the valley’s farmlands, the waterway separates vast tracts of farmland, creating vital habitats for local wildlife. I loved how the water led the viewer’s eye into the scene towards the trees.

With limited time, I captured a fantastic series of rural scenes and winter landscapes in Grays Harbor County, Washington.

Every photograph has a story behind it, and I am always eager to share my experiences and insights with others. Photography allows me to connect with nature and explore the world. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my passion with others through my work.
