Usually photographing the forest on a bright sunny day doesn’t produce the greatest results. However, on a recent trip to Mount Rainier National Park, I was driving by Federation Forest State Park near Greenwater, Washington when I noticed beams of soft light highlighting small portions of the forest. I immediately turned around and headed into the old growth forest in search of these patterns of light. I chose my 80-200 mm lens to isolate the areas of the forest in which the light was shining. Later in the photo shoot, I switched to my 50 mm lens for some wider angle and close up photographs.
After the quality light subsided, I packed up my gear and headed up to Sunrise at Mount Rainier national Park, Washington. Read about the next part of the days landscape photography adventure at August Afternoon at Sunrise, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington, 2016.
My original plan was to process this series of nature photographs as color images. Once I was in my digital dark room and started experimenting in Adobe Lightroom, it wasn’t long before I knew black and white was the way to take this small nature photo project.
