In most years, I typically make an annual trip to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest during October. .
Visiting this time of year brings back wonderful childhood memories of spending time in the South Cascades of Washington State.
Autumn was always very special because it meant hunting season. My Dad and his hunting buddies would set up a camp just before deer season in October and wouldn’t tear it down until after Elk season in November, sometimes after late buck season.
I would always get to go to hunting camp on weekends, with some days extending into the school week. Even though I missed school, I received a different education, that of life. I’ll leave the rest of that to your imagination.
Even though I made a trip to the area during the summer, this year I couldn’t get away for my annual autumn trip.
Now that I’m traveling less, I have had time to go back through my undeveloped photographs. By doing so, I found this image of Mt. Adams that I captured in October 2019.
The photograph was captured late in the day near the Windy Ridge Viewpoint near Mt. St Helens. While the surrounding landscape was in deep shadow, the day’s last sunlight still illuminated Mt. Adams
