As a photographer, there’s nothing quite like capturing the beauty of nature in a photograph. On a recent trip, I photographed the Metcalf Slough near Montesano, Washington. This tranquil waterway winds through the lower Chehalis Valley’s farmlands. The slow-moving water provides essential habitats for local wildlife.
As I gazed upon this scene, the simplicity and beauty of the landscape struck me. The slough’s calm waters led my eyes toward the distant trees. I immediately felt the peaceful mood of the landscape.
Surrounded by farmland, Metcalf Slough is a vital habitat for local wildlife. It provides a much-needed source of water and shelter. As I watched birds going about their routines, the slough’s importance to the ecosystem was clear. It’s remarkable how even a small body of water can affect the environment.
