Black and white landscape photography has always fascinated me. It strips away the distractions of color and reveals the scene’s essence. It allows me to focus on the shapes, textures, contrasts, and light that make up the landscape.

I chose to capture the spring season in the Washington Cascades foothills in black and white. This region is rich in natural beauty, with lush forests, flowing rivers, and majestic mountains. Spring is a time of renewal, when the snow melts, and the water levels rise, creating dynamic and dramatic scenes.

I spent time in May 2019 exploring the Gifford Pinchot National Forest along the Skate Creek Road (Forest Road 52) in rural Lewis County, Washington. This road winds through the forest, crossing several creeks and offering stunning views. I was amazed by the variety and complexity of the landscapes, from the delicate ferns and mosses to the towering firs and cedars.

Because I was deep in the forest, I focused on the small scenes and intimate landscapes, revealing the details and patterns of nature. I also experimented with long exposures to create a sense of motion and blur in the water.

The result is a series of black and white landscape photographs that showcase the beauty and diversity of the Washington Cascades foothills in spring. These images are available as fine art prints in different sizes and formats to suit your preferences and decor. You can order them online through my online art store or contact me for more information.

I hope you enjoy viewing these photographs as much as I enjoyed taking them. Thank you for your interest in my work and supporting my passion for black and white landscape photography.
