This past weekend, Spring weather arrived in the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures west of the cascades reached the 70s, and we had several days without rain. The warmer weather was a welcome relief from one of the wettest and coolest springs.
Before this, snow fell in the Cascades Mountains – making for very scenic conditions. We’re all happy there wasn’t snow in the lowlands.
After visiting Snoqualmie Falls, I drove east up the valley toward the pass. Towering over the city of North Bend, Mt Si (elevation 4,167 ft) is one of the first significant peaks heading east of Seattle. Many of you will recognize Mt. Si from the TV series Twin Peaks.
On the outskirts of town, I found this setting where I could capture the trees and Mt Si in one composition. Even though it was a cloudy day, the sun cast nice light on the mountain.
Later in the day, after an afternoon hike, I drove closer to Snoqualmie Pass. I found a great view of Mailbox Peak (4,841 ft). Next to it on the right is Dirty Harry’s Peak (elevation 4680 ft). Both peaks were covered under a blanket of spring snow.
Snow will remain in the high country of the Washington Cascades for several more months. Until then, snow may play a role in the images I make.
