In my studio, surrounded by prints and camera gear, I can’t help but think about the path that brought me here. The love and effort I devoted to black and white photography, without knowing the many roles I would have to fulfill for it to become a viable business, demonstrates the strength of dedication and inspiration.

Sure, I knew I’d be spending countless hours behind the lens, searching for that perfect composition and waiting for ideal lighting conditions. But that’s only the beginning.

Marketing has become a significant part of my daily routine. From maintaining an active social media presence to crafting email newsletters, I seek new ways to share my vision with the world. Putting myself out there is challenging, but my connections with fellow art lovers make it worthwhile.

Then there’s the website. Oh, the website! What started as a simple online portfolio has grown into a full-fledged e-commerce platform. I had to learn how users interact with products, how to make them more visible on search engines, and how to write detailed descriptions for my prints. It’s a never-ending process of tweaking and improving.

Copywriting is another skill I’ve had to develop. Finding the right words to describe a visual medium can be challenging, but it’s essential for connecting with potential buyers who can’t see the prints in person. I strive to convey what’s in the image and the emotion and story behind it.

Editing is a crucial but often unnoticed aspect of my job. I dedicated countless hours to refining my processing techniques, ensuring every image portrays the depth, contrast, and tonal range I imagined. Balancing technical skill and artistic intuition is a delicate undertaking.

I’ve become proficient in matting and framing my pieces for physical gallery showcases. Selecting the right mat color and width is an art that complements each photograph and enhances the image with chosen frames. By taking a hands-on approach, I can ensure that each piece of art looks its absolute best when displayed in a gallery.

When I receive a fine art print order, a new phase of work starts. I handle every aspect of customer support, from answering questions to ensuring orders are fulfilled. The satisfaction comes from overseeing the entire process and knowing my art will be displayed on someone’s wall soon. By providing personal customer support, I show my appreciation for all of you.

Some days, wearing all these different hats can feel overwhelming. But then I receive a message from a customer telling me how much joy my work brings them, and it makes it all worthwhile.

So, to everyone who has supported my art over the years, your purchases, kind words, and shares on social media mean more than you know. You’re not only buying a print; you’re an integral part of this journey, supporting all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into running this small business. I’m filled with a deep sense of appreciation for your unwavering support.

Here’s to the artists, the entrepreneurs, and all the other multi-hatted individuals out there. May we continue to learn, grow, and create beautiful things.
